I am officially a Breast Cancer Survivor!
It is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. According to breastcancer.org:
- 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime
- 382,624 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year
- 1048 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer today
- 5 women will be lost to breast cancer this hour.
No one used the words “cured” or “remission” or said that “I beat it”. I’m just done with treatment. There is a chance it could return but the odds are it won’t.
I will get my port removed in November. My next mammogram is in February. I have check-up appointments with oncology every 3 months.
